Senusret III campaigned repeatedly in Nubia and fixed Egypt’s southern frontier at Semna with a boundary stela warning his successors not to give up an inch of it. A system of fortresses along the Second Cataract controlled trade and movement on the river.
His sculpture is famous for its heavy-lidded eyes and lined faces — a deliberate image of a king who watched over his people. Later generations worshipped him as a god in Nubia.
