The best-preserved mortuary temple in Thebes, Medinet Habu was surrounded by massive mud-brick walls and entered through a fortified gate modelled on a Syrian fortress.
Its outer walls carry the famous reliefs of Ramesses III’s victory over the Sea Peoples, and inside, painted ceilings and deep-cut hieroglyphs still preserve much of their original colour.
